How comes that a post with only 1 "likes" is in the "Top Stories", while mine with 5 "likes" is nowhere to be seen? Just because I always voted Republican?

I think it has more to do with the number of views than the number of likes, although with Kinja who the fuck knows.

I was about to make a smartass comment along the lines of "DO NOT QUESTION OUR KINJA OVERLORDS" then this happens:
I always thought it had to do with view counts, not how many people recommended the post. Maybe I'm wrong?

Maybe a moderator liked it vs. us plebes?

My understanding is that the "Top Stories" sidebar are using traffic numbers from Chartbeat and based upon my own analysis, they are "most popular" because more people are looking at them at that moment. On some of the less-trafficked communities, one viewer can get a post in the sidebar, where it will remain until they close the post.
"Likes" have nothing to do with it.
